Monterey Brass - Christmas Brass
« on: November 15, 2005, 01:50:14 AM »
Hey all!

Here it is....at last, the "Christmas Brass" album by the Monterey Brass.  I just got my "upgraded" LP copy tonight.   I've transferred the songs to my PC for your enjoyment.

You'll recognize some of the titles on this album, as these are their versions of the Caroleer Singers' "Mama Santa's Suprise" and "Christmas Mountain".  There's some instrumental renditions of other songs by them such as "Sing A Kris Kringle Jingle" (on their Frosty The Snowman album) and traditional carols too.
This is the album that got me into the Christmas spirit as a kid, the very same one that also got me hooked on the mexican brass style of Christmas Brass.

I haven't been able to scan the album cover, because A. I am the world's worst photographer and B. my scanner can't get the whole album in.  I even tried to scan it in "parts" but for some reason, when I go to paste the files together it doesn't look right.  So if someone can provide scans of the front and back, you'll be all set with the artwork.

The track listing is as follows:

SIDE A:
Jingle Bells
Sing A Kris Kringle Jingle
Silent Night
Mama Santa's Surprise
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Christmas Mountain

SIDE B:
Joy To The World
Mr. Reindeer
Sleigh Ride/Jingle Bells (note:  the song is listed as a medley but it is actually one song, Sleigh Ride)
The Snowflake Song
Christmas Candy
Deck The Halls

I've tried to also be aware of the recording levels, so hopefully this one will sound good.  I thought maybe it sounded static-y in spots but as far as I can tell, that is from the record.

Here's the link for you to download the album:

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have - and still do!

Fun album.  Thanks for working to get both the audio and visuals set.  Any clue what year this was recorded?

I'm guessing early to mid seventies, but I really have no idea.  King, you have the book...
