12/18/2005 – Who’s That Up On The Roof by The Caroleers

Sometimes I’m still surprised by how beloved these Caroleers albums are. Apparently a lot of people had these records and played them to death, burning these songs deep into their Christmas subconscious where they lay dormant during the digital age. People come here and find them and just are filled with joy. Here’s an e-mail I got today:
God Almighty, I cannot believe I just downloaded the Caroleers. I have several of these on vinyl, but who has a turntable? Nobody does, that’s who. I have been searching and begging for these songs for years. You have made my Christmas.
And I get e-mails like this every other day or so. I’m really glad to help people connect to these memories.
This is one song that people often mention searching for. I can tell how these would stick in the heads of kids of my generation. I feel almost a bit sad that I didn’t grow up with these memories….
