12/18/2007: Blue Christmas by The Living Voices
December 18th, 2007
Boy we love all those "Living" groups around here–Living Voices, Living Strings, Living Guitars, Living Trio, etc. Why won’t you people release these on CD/MP3? You’re depriving the world of great music!
What makes this particular album by the Living folks (as opposed to zombies, maybe) is that the arrangements are by none other than Anita Kerr. It really shows in the harmonies here. Just beautiful.
Now, why did I choose this particular song? Well, aside from the fact that it’s just so sweet and smooth is that it is a good way to introduce the artwork for this year’s ADVENTure In Carols (in that we have a different color scheme).
Now I put several calls out all over the internet looking for an artist to match that done by Ward Jenkins and Steve Mack. Responses came in from some AMAZINGLY talented people and I am truly humbled by the level of talent that came my way. (Keep it in mind for future years, folks!)
But one person who happened to see my cry for help on Ward’s blog was an old college friend of mine. He sent me an email with a quick mock-up and I knew I had the man for the job. He had captured the feel of the AiC experience AND he’s an old friend. So it was WIN-WIN in my book.
So here is this year’s AiC cover by my friend, Ed McKeogh:
Once all the songs have been posted (on or after Christmas Day) you’ll be able to download the cover in high resolution with a complete booklet and jewel case insert.

Great cover! I’m imagining that those folks on the cover are some of the regulars around here. The King is the one with the baton, of course. I’m the tall guy with the glasses in the back row. I’m not going to go out on a limb and tell you who I think the rest of those folks are, but they’re all there. (Someone in the picture looks a little, well, stubby…) Good work!
