THOUGHTS FROM THE KING:

We all owe a debt of gratitude to FaLaLaLaLa member Tru5t for bringing this record to my attention last year. He listed it as one that he would most like to get and mentioned to me that he had been searching for it for quite some time to no avail. I quickly put on my searching hat and within 15 minutes I had ordered it from GEMM. It was listed under “Ses Carillons Et Ses Percussions”.

The reason we need to be thankful is that this is just a fantastic amalgam of Space Age pop brilliance! It’s like Apple took Esquivel’s arrangements and gave them to Ray Conniff with The Three Suns as backing band! It’s just that great!

There’s not a lot of info about Herman Apple on the web and I’d greatly appreciate any information that anybody out there has.

I hope that via FaLaLaLaLa this album gets the hearing and recognition it deserves….

Rich Little – Scrooge and the Stars

h1 Wednesday, July 20th, 2005

In order to keep the site a little more active, I’m just going to post little nuggets about recent items that I’ve picked up. These have yet to be recorded, etc.

Today’s nab: Rich Little – Scrooge and the Stars

Rich Little - Scrooge and the Stars

I’ve seen this listed a few places, usually for over $100 (though I think there’s one at MusicStack for $21). Apparently it’s taken from a radio program Little did where he performed A Christmas Carol using some of his many celebrity impersonations. There’s also a video version.

I’m not sure if the audio and video versions are the same, but here’s some of the “cast” of the TV version (via IMDB):

W.C. Fields as Scrooge/Paul Lynde as Bob Cratchit/Humphrey Bogart as the Ghost of Christmas Past/Peter Falk as the Ghost of Christmas Present/Peter Sellers as the Ghost of Christmas Yet-To-Come/Richard Nixon as Jacob Marley/Truman Capote as Tiny Tim/Groucho Marx as Fezziwig/Edith Bunker as Mrs. Cratchit/Johnny Carson as Nephew Fred/Jimmy Stewart as Scrooge’s boss/John Wayne as businessman/George Burns as businessman/Jack Benny as boy outside window

Should be interesting….
